Sister Island - Great Getaway

Sister islands, a pair of small island on the southern part of our small country. My belief that it is not a familiar place for most of us to visit as there is no regular ferry trip to these island unlike St John & Kusu islands. So would one expect a run down, ill maintained island then? Nay, small both it might be, but it is a nicely maintained with proper toilet facilities.

Recently, been asked to see if I am keen to join a batch of hardcore anglers to one of the islands, heck yes, though I know that fishing is a bit tough there, but heck, it is not often to be able to find a gang of 12 pax to split the cost of charter a ferry there.

On the day itself, due to the fact that we are moving off very early in the morning, my choice of packed food is limited as there are not many food stall opened at 6am. But luckily managed to grab some decent food and meet up with the rest of the gang at Marina Ferry terminal. A short wait later, we are on our way to Sister islands, to know more about Sister islands, do Google for it.

Did I mentioned that these guys are hardcore anglers? Well, you know that they are dead serious about doing fishing at the island when they started setting up their gears on board the ferry on our way there. Upon arriving, a quick off load and they started fishing non-stop till it is time to go.

As usual, myself and DesT are the lazy anglers, instead of fishing, DesT took a nap not too long after we arrived while I decided to take shelter after a while as I feel that no todak or queenie like my baits.

After a while, decided to walk around this tiny island, and take some pics since at that time we are the only group there. Later there is another fishing group came and some students who came to do camping. There are lots of kunning, tamban and other assortments of edible bait fishes, once a while, a yellow tail (aka potato fish in Hokkien) is caught. Fishing for us is limited to the jetty as it is the easiest place to fish and there are fishes there too. Sadly for me, other then halfbeaks there are no todak or queenie for me today, though I see some movement on the surface which indicate bait fishes are chased by some unknown fishes.

In the evening, there is an unexpected catch of Deep Sea KBL by one of the anglers, which by then only did I know that he actually did caught a good amount of fishes. Just rewards for him as he have been fishing non-stop from the time we arrived till we leave.

All in all, a very nice and relaxing trip. Almost like having the entire island to yourself except for the occasional visit from the cleaners (not sure who is in charge, NPark or Sentosa or whoever), private crafts, and other visitors. Fishing might not be great, for me at least, but is something I like to do so again as it is a great break from city.

For first time visitors to the island, some info for you.
There is NO food or Drinks stall there, do bring your own.
There is a proper toilet facilities, showers included, BUT no power supply at all, so No lights at night should you plan to do so.
Do contact Sentosa if you plan to stay overnight there, it is FOC but you will need to inform them though.
There are monkeys on the island, so take care of your belongings and do NOT feed them please.
Important - Current outside the swimming lagoon is Very Strong, do NOT venture beyond the swimming lagoon if you are having a dip in it. During my trip, 3 idiots who are trying to show off swam beyond the swimming lagoon and got swept away, luckily a bumboat is nearby to save from from drowning.

Here's more pics taken while I am on the island, enjoy!
