Kyoto Haven Pond - Pasir Ris FW3

After a long hard day of doing housework in preparation for CNY, a call from friend to pay a visit to Kyoto pond is too much of a temptation. I just need to get out of the house to get a break, and also I would like to visit the pond as it have been in operation for a while already but yet didn't see much catch reports on this pond. Anyway armed with just some coffee and some drinks, this trip will serve as a recce trip for me while my friend will be fishing.

We reach there just after 10pm, immediately am told that they will close at 2am today thus with their current promotion of 3hrs+1hrs free, we will lose out about 15mins of fishing. No issue at all, so let's start fishing. In less then 20 minutes, 1st hook up, a KBL but friend loss it when the KBL is doing it's 'Michael Jordan' routine, after that it is pretty quiet for my friend till about 1 am where he have about 3 hooks up but lost all of it. Staffs are friendly chaps which I manage to strike a decent conversation with a couple of them, which they tell me a lot more about the ponds and other stuff. Some interesting facts is that there are 12 species in the pond, 2 types of KBL (Barra and Local KBL, err.... dun ask me what are local KBL, I have no idea what they are), small qty of Taiwan Ngor, 3 types of groupers (sorry too tired to remember what they are), GT (Golden Trevally), GT again (this time round is Giant Trevally), GP (golden promfet), and 3 species of snappers. Plus 2 Giant groupers which have grown to an estimated 20kg odd already.

Before I forget, there's a few house rules (or rather pond rules), CnR for 3kg and above, 100% live bait only, which is sold at the pond). And de-barded hooks only. As explained by them, they need to keep the water in good condition and to be able to release the CnR fishes faster.

As it is my site recce trip, I move around to see the location. Saw 2 different ladies landing big KBL but only manage to take pic of one only. I am not too sure of it's size but according to the staff it is estimated to be 7-8kg, and for good measure he immediately told me that just very recently someone got a 14kg KBL.

The night is pretty quiet actually, not much fishes being landed, not sure if this is the usual bite rate. Anyway very nice of the staff to give my friend 10 pieces of milk fish due to his shorten fishing hours, plus 3 recently dead frozen fishes as he end up being a zero fighter although they allow him to fish will after 2am.

My observations are as below
  • Nice, clean and spacious location. Plus point is the good quality recliner which I manage to take a nap. Saw a good number of brolly to provide shelter from sun if fishing in daylight.
  • Water is clean and doesn't smells, they do pipe in fresh seawater. The clean cement 'pond bed' is an added bonus as it reduces sangkok and prevent 'hot spots' for fishes.
  • Also there isn't any structural obstacle except for the island in the middle, light tackle anglers will like this.
  • Catch Rate wasn't too impressive esp for those sizes that could bring back.
  • Price is pretty steep at $60 for 3 hrs without any promotion, however if their claim of biggies percentage in pond is true, those who like taking on biggies might find it justify it's cost. Lurers would also appreciate the size of the pond.
  • For this price, I would like to see that the live baits are given FOC to anglers rather having to pay for them, this I feel is a win-win for all as anglers and just go with their tackles and not worry about baits, while the pond can instill whatever baits to use since they are providing it.

Some promotional stuff that I gather from the staff,
Fish release timing is fixed at 9am, 1pm, 5pm and 9pm, open 24 hrs on Friday, Sat and eve of public holiday only. (however they are closed as of now till the 4th day of CNY).
During the CNY period (I have no idea for how long though) a Ang Pao will be give for EVERY grouper landed irregardless of size.
They are thinking of starting a promotion, 3hrs + free one extra hour are every 2 rods purchased at the same time. Not sure if they will be starting that, so call if you need to ask them.

Lastly one bonus for me to seriously think about fishing there even though I am not a pond angler, when I query about using a noodle rod to fish there (warning them that it could tired out their CnR fishes till they die) surprising they are okay with it, but I will not get too overly excited, wait till I landed one on noodle rod and see what they say, have a strange feeling that they will not like it after all.
