Tackle Shopping @ Beach Road, my intro to light jigging?

It have been a long long time since I do shopping for fishing stuff at Beach Road, when a non-fisho friend called to meet me there for lunch, well I agreed mainly because I can do some shopping.

Basically I have an idea what I needed, so shopping is pretty fast and easy for me. First stop is Lure Haven to pick up some Sasame swivel, as I have no idea which other tackle shop stocks them. I couldn't resist to pick up an Ima GUN 7g jig as well, heard so much good review about it but I dun really do jigging. My guess it is more of a case of just buy and keep the Ima GUN till someday to try it out.

While waiting for my friend, pop by one of the tackle shop and spoke to Alan Chan. I am looking for gold colored prawn hooks, as the thin wire gauge would be great to hook gargo bait, alas the shop have only black colored ones. Since have time, spend some time to find out more about light / micro jigging from Alan, as I don't do boat fishing, I am keen to try shoreline jigging only. Found out that is possible, but need concentration and risk losing jigs, well at least it is possible. It invoke interest in me to try out some day soon, since more or less I think I have the tackles needed, just need to buy some jigs to try out on one of those southern islands trips.

New Spoon additions

I have no idea what happened to me recently, or rather what happen to our local fishes. For some strange reason, recently all my hard lures stop producing catches and the only bites I get are from spoons. Just a few weeks ago, I bought a cheapo spoon I spotted at Tackle2000, shaped like the ever popular Yozuri Altima spoon but at a much lower price, but without the scale and eyes detail. Friend tried it on it's maiden trip hook up a very decent sized PB while all the other lures we tried yield nothing.

Cheap Spoon

A few months ago, I grab a few spoons at Siow Chiang Warehouse, not that I like them but at just $1 each, what the heck just grab it. Only when I got home did I realized that I got a bargin, Abu Toby (already tarnished), Blue Fox Pixee and Blue Fox Tear Drop. My guess these are very old stock, thus it is re-packaged in a simple plastic bag and priced cheaply to sell them off.

Pics of the spoons coming soon.

General rule of thumb is to get silver color for clear water and gold for stained water. If you just want to buy just one spoon, I will recommend the Yozuri Altima Spoon, a great spoon but for it's price, it seems pretty expensive for a piece of bended metal. I am still waiting for our local tackle shop to bring in the 7G version, 14G sink a tad too much for me for the places I am fishing in.

New Lure Addition

Ari help me to purchase a Chug Bug from Sincere Tackle at just $7, kind of him to dig real hard to find this Green Color one for me. When he called me when he is there, he couldn't see any green one on display, so I asked him to get me the silver one. But his can really dig out a green one in the shop.

Meanwhile, I got a sample shipment from a China lure maker, which includes a few pieces of 21g spoon and spinner blades. The spoon profile look exactly like the US brand 'Kastmaster' and 'Mr. Champs', and I am very happy with the swim action when I try it out.

As for the spinner blades, they didn't ship with the Spin Clevises, so have to improvise but not too good effect. Thinking of some other ways to get them to spin right.

New addition to collection

New addition to my lures, Abu Reflex is a gift from my fishing buddy Nenasi, he wanted me to get my first Haruan, and gave me this spinner in hope I can get the haruan soon.

I am a fan of Vibes and Crankbaits, thus get this R2S from an angler who advertise on the forum. Love the Firetiger color.

Barren weekend and Lost lure again

This weekend is terrible for me in terms of lure fishing. On Sat, usual spot the water is very murky, nothing took the lure, zero take. Sunday at GuiLin, trying for some small PB, zero take as well.

Lost 2 lures over the weekend, Daiso Vibe (self paint FireTiger color) and Duel 3D Flatcrank Green. Sad.......

Lure Shopping trip at Daiso

This morning , am around the IMM area, so decided to pop by Daiso to see if there is any new shipment of lures. As I lost one of my fav Daiso lure, Rattle Vibe in natural color, during my luring session at 'AMK' on Sun, I hope to find one to replace it.

Luck as it, they have both the natural color and pink series available. But the rattling Vibe in natural color does not have stock, only have the silent type. Bought a few of the pink one and intend to self paint them.

Finish up painting 2 at night, the Vibe and Pencil, using Yozuri color as a reference, in Fire Tiger and Perch respectively. Hope these self painted lures can catch some fishes for me.

My Lures that are MIA or RIP

I guess losing lures are part of parcel of luring. Most luring kaki that I know never have any qualms about losing lures to fishes during a hook up, but everyone irks at losing lures thru debris and rubbish underwater. Even I am new to luring, my lures casualty rate is consider high by my own standard.

There are some lures that I have lost either thru my own carelessness or garbage or debris underwater.
Rapala X-Rap
Yozuri Vibe
Yozuri L Minnow
Daiso Black Pencil
Daiso Rattling Vibe
Unknown popper given to me
Not counting the numerous self tied flies and dress u jigheads.
Ok Lure - Green (This is destoryed by a kaki during a luring trip)

I am sure there are more to come, but hope I can reduce this with the lure retriever that I purchase recently.

IMA Komomo SF-130 Slim

Dave, Lure Haven, have been very kind to give me tips and share his knowledge of luring in the FK forum with me. He invited me to visit him at the shop, not necessary to buy stuff, but more to get to know one another more.

I always have been interested to buy this IMA Komomo Slim 130 for a long time as luring kakis been signing praises about it. Finally get one to try out for myself.

During it's maiden trip, I use this to foul-hook an est 8kg Song Fish. Sadly lost it when it start struggling when it is near the shore.

To date, this is the most expensive lure I have purchase, in spite of the recent adjustment of IMA lure prices and the discount Dave gave me.

Self Tied Flies and Jigheads

I first started out tying flies when I see the success rate catching PB on them. But I am not using a Fly rod, so I do the spin fly method instead. Later to eliminate the need of a sinker and leader, and also to ease the change of lures, I switch to dress up jig heads.

Hook up rate is high as with these, I dare to toss into those areas where I dare not toss into with lures.

While I am doing up these flies and jigheads, I gave the spinner bait I got from Daiso a make over. As the treble hook in the original design cannot be changed, I need to re-do the entire rig. Beads are added, treble changed to a dress up treble with split ring and the spoon is polished before assembly.

Now this look good and hook sharp enough, may it catch many fishes for me.

More Lures Purchase

I didn't have any big sized poppers and surface lures, thus when these lures were posted for sale on the forum, I pick up these four lures. All are brand new and are of good value, at least 30% off the retail price.

Modified Lures

During my luring trips I found 2 lures what is lost by anglers. I need to re-paint the minnow as the paint work is very bad already, and the popper although it have lost it color a little, but still okay. So decided to give it some silver strips at the side just for the look.

The Daiso popper is added with a Fly trailer, in principle the popper makes the sound to attract the fishes attention and the fly hopefully will induce them to whack it. But yet to have any success on this.

Daiso Lures

Daiso from time to time will bring in some light lures, which is generally pretty good and very affordable. From my understanding, there are 3 color range, Natural, Bright Colors and Pink.

These are my purchases from a while back when I started luring and buy these as I believe I will lose a fair bit of lures.

Storm lures

These 2 Storm Lures are pick up at Fishing Mania a long time ago. I can't remember what model these are, and how much did i pay for them.

Slavko Bug & Others

One kaki I met pretty often during my St John island trip, Dan, met me to pass some owner barbless hooks and show me luring tips. At the same time, he is also posting on the forum selling off his collection of these out of production lures.

Me bought one from him in appreciation of his gift of the hooks and sharing his luring knowledge with me.

When we are done with our luring session, we went for breakfast and he show me the different type of lures at the tackle shops. Pick up lures he recommended to me.

Lure Purchase from forum - Minnows

Someone in the forum selling these lures, good value as they are at least 25% off retail price.

Lures purchase a while back - OK brand

These set of lures are purchased a while ago, cannot remember why I purchase them. Brand ss 'OK Lure', suppose to come with VMC hooks.

Yet to use all of these lures, only some are being used.
